Central to all BGL mentoring programs is our unique BOSS-Business Owner Success System™ methodologies or BOSSmethod™ for short.
Originally developed by Business mentor Geoff Currie for Business Growth Leaders clients. The foundations of which were built from his personal methodologies as a successful business owner and investor over the past 4 decades. As a business mentor Geoff over the past 20+ years has shared, confirmed and further refined the BOSS methodologies while transforming hundreds of businesses across 70+ different industries and their owners lives..
The 3 Key Principles That BOSSmethod Is Built Around
1. A Culture of Playing “Above the Line”
Encouraging an “Above the Line” culture of behaviour for the business comprising of: Ownership, Accountability, and Responsibility; while also identifying and correcting “Below the Line” behaviours of: Blame, Excuses, and Denial.
At a business level this is the foundation of developing the right ‘culture’; At an individuals level this is developing ‘self leadership’. Each of the aspects of the BOSS methodologies have been designed for “Above the Line” behaviours across the business.
2. “Lift the Team Up Before You Can Push the Work Down”:
BOSSmethod is a team first approach to building capacity and capabilities so that as most of an owners existing day-2-day roles and tasks are delegated to their team everyone can be confident in the outcomes.
In simplistic terms just pushing the work down is management; and just lifting the team up is leadership…the magic happens when we can do both, but the order matters.
3. African Proverb: “If You Want To Go Fast, Go Alone; If You Want To Go Far, Go Together”
BOSSmethod is designed to build “apprentice” leadership in your existing team early on which provides a proactive team that can proactively digest, problem solve, and successfully complete projects. The business moves faster when they can spot and correct issues early as a team with minimal intervention from the owner. BOSSmethod is designed to encourage rapid, constructive communication across the business.
The Key 4-Development Areas
BOSS methodologies has 4 Key areas which act as a priority implementation guide to consistently lock in bankable wins along the way with time, team, money, and freeing up the Owner.

The first 2 are designed for the last two to happen faster, smoother … and without the owner doing all the work themselves. As the business grows and develops, each of these phases are revisited a few times to ‘recalibrate’ for the new business which has been built.
The Journey
The Business Owners journey as the BOSSmethod is implemented is to successfully move them from typically Chaos through the following success pathway:

Chaos
When a business is experiencing Chaos its experiencing unreliable and fluctuating results with the 3-main resources of a business time, team and money. The owner and the business will typically spend a lot of time fire fighting problems. Other visible examples include poor team culture and performance, tight cash flow, or the owners time is consumed in ‘busyness’ and not able to find the time to work on the business.
🚦Using the BOSSmethod simple traffic lights a matrix to build a diagnostic some areas of the business may be going ok (Orange) a few great (Green), and highlighting the ones that are costing the business dearly (Red).
Depending on the situation and opportunity the transition to control can be achieved in 2-6 months. (Red to Orange)
Control
A business in control has stable ‘vitals’ in the areas of time, team, and money even if they are not perfect. While the business may not be going forward it isn’t going backward. The owner should now have enough time to work ‘on’ the business to transition the business through the rest of the stages.
The goal is to get the traffic lights on main elements of the business to at least orange.
Progress
A business in progress is experiencing the results of a well run business. The owner is now able to ‘turn up the dial’ and accelerate the business growth and moving forward rather than chasing tail and putting out spot fires. The streamlined and upgraded workflows for attracting new clients, converting them into customers, and delivering your products and services efficiently, effectively, and profitably.
The more aspects of your business you can get to green in our BOSS method diagnostic the faster the result and bigger the pay off. The owner is at the helm running the business and typically still busy at this stage but its ‘on’ the business, The team are rowing in unison, and profits are getting back to where they should be though typical a sizeable portion is reinvested to ‘fund’ growth.
Success
A business owner experiencing this stage will typically be working around 2 hours on the business/day and may work on some special projects for the business, or take some time to enjoy the rewards of a successful business. With more time on their hands and a leadership team to monitor the BOSSmethod traffic lights of the business and maintain it ship shape.
Surplus profits at this stage means the owner can invest for their future. They’ve built a high growth, high profit, company that works mostly without them.
Freedom
Most business owners believe that a successful business equates to freedom, but after helping countless business owners grow successful business including my own I can confirm from experience this isn’t the case. You reach freedom when you can replace your ‘business income’ with (mostly) passive cashflow from your other investments. You develop these investments with the surplus profits from your successful business.
Business is high rewards but it is also high risk and at this stage you are looking to de-risk your world to achieve SWAN (Sleep Well At Night) risk levels. You can achieve this stage much quicker by learning about investing and understanding asset classes to invest in. At this stage your time is your own to pursue what, where and when you want to…
